This 19th century metal hearing device was made to rest under a man's beard. Rubber tubes on each end fit into the ears. The metal receptor is hollow with a long narrow opening about where the mouth would be. There are springs inside the rubber tubes, allowing it to fit into the ears. This could also be worn under a scarf.
